Create something new and stand out in a tidal wave of marketing for the hotly-anticipated final season of one of the most heavily-promoted and talked-about shows of all time.
No biggie.
After a nearly two-year hiatus, Game of Thrones was returning for its final season. The HBO brand social team was tasked with honoring the iconic show’s sunset to compliment its larger, historically-saturated, promotional campaign.
HBO’s “For The Throne” campaign and partnerships with brands like Bud Light and OREO were dominating news cycles. So we took an intimate route, giving fans their own tongue-in-cheek, personalized piece of the narrative and leveraged our rich collection of library titles to make some solid puns.
YOUR FATE AWAITS
Season 8 brought us the fates of dozens of characters we had grown to love and/or hate over the years. So we decided to do a 1:1 Twitter activation to help make the fans feel like they’re part of the game. A live war room filled with writers and designers riffed jokes and pumped out their best spins on fan responses at breakneck speed.
